Sony has launched the newest addition to its line of prime lenses: the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8. This fast lens is lightweight and compact, which makes it a nice addition to your travel kit. Also, compared to some other 35mm lenses from Sony, it’s pretty affordable. So let’s dive in and learn more about Sony’s newest lens.
The Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 was made for full frame cameras, but you can use it on APS-C models too and get the 52.5mm equivalent focal length. The lens features an aspheric element to reduce aberrations and field curvature while maintaining contrast and sharpness. Also, it has a nine-blade circular diaphragm for soft and smooth bokeh.
When it comes to focusing, the lens features a linear autofocus motor and internal focus design. Sony promises quick and precise autofocus performance, as well as accurate and silent focusing while shooting video. There’s also a customizable focus hold button which locks focus when recomposing. It can also be set to activate other functions, including Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview, or Bright Monitoring. The lens is dust- and moisture-resistant, so you can use it in harsh conditions, and the rubberized control rings allow you to use it in colder temperatures. As I mentioned, it’s very lightweight and compact, weighing 280 grams and measuring 65.6 mm in diameter by 73mm in length. I guess all this makes it pretty handy for traveling with it. Here are the specs: The Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 is available for preorders. It costs $748, and the shipping begins in August 2019.
